The Greek School of Bucharest “Athena” is a public school in the capital of Romania. It is situated close to Henri Coanda Airport (20km). Bucharest is a historical place, deeply connected with the Greek nation with lots of monuments and places worthseeing. The landscape is picturesque among beautiful parks and lakes.
Our 75 students attend all three levels of the Greek educational system (Kindergarden, primary and a gymnasium( junior high school). Our student population consists of Greeks, Romanian and mixed families. Most of them are of rather high economic status.
Students start learning at the age of 7 and end primary at 12, then go to the gymnasium and finish it when they are 15. We mostly focus on languages learning (Greek, English,Romanian) but we follow the Greek curriculum. At school unfortunately we don’t have a big outdoor playground and we have rather poor sports facilities. We cooperate with local institutions: Greek Union, libraries, Center of Greek Culture, the folk association etc. Our students enter high quality secondary schools and they continue at either Romanian or Greek Universities.
Pupils are motivated, they actively participate in eTwinning projects, thus gaining awareness of European citizenship and cultural diversity. They take part in after-school activities (languages, sport and many others). Our students choose different schools and most of them continue their education in secondary schools in Bucharest.
